The Republic of Ireland moved alongside Russia and Slovakia at the top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group B with a narrow 2-1 win over an impressive Macedonia side at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. A pair of goalkeeping errors allowed Aiden McGeady and Robbie Keane to move into an early 2-0 lead but Ivan Trickovski’s fine goal just before half-time gave Mirsad Jonuz’s side hope.

A late goal by Edin Dzeko gave Bosnia a 2-1 home win over Romania and boosted the Balkan country's hopes of reaching their first major tournament as an independent nation. The result left the Bosnians in a good position to clinch at least a play-off berth in Group D, having collected seven points from four matches after Dzeko headed home an 83rd-minute winner.

A last-gasp goal by Levan Kobiashvili earned Georgia a surprise 1-0 win over Croatia in Group F. Goalkeeper Nukri Revishvili pulled off a string of fine saves to keep Croatia at bay before Kobiashvili scored the winner in the 89th minute. Georgia's victory leaves them third in the group with every chance of qualifying for a first major tournament.

Norway's Eric Huseklepp struck a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw with Denmark as they stretched their advantage at the top of Group H to three points after the Scandinavian derby. A superb volley by Dennis Rommedahl had given the dominant Danes the lead but Norway's Bari forward Huseklepp slotted home an equaliser after 81 minutes. The draw means Norway now have 10 points ahead of Portugal and Denmark on seven with all the teams in the group having played four games.

Thomas Muller and Miroslav Klose both scored twice as Germany eased to a 4-0 victory over Kazakhstan to open up a commanding eight-point lead in Euro 2012 qualifying Group A. Germany have maintained the momentum from their third place World Cup finish last year, winning all five of their qualifiers to top the group with 15 points, conceding only one goal and scoring 17 in the process.

England returned to the top of Group G with a comfortable 2-0 victory over a lacklustre Wales in their Euro 2012 qualifier at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Early goals from Frank Lampard and Darren Bent gave the team skippered by a re-appointed John Terry a foothold they never looked like losing against Gary Speed’s relatively young side, who lacked confidence as they slumped to their fourth defeat in as many qualifying matches.

Germany 4 - 0 Kazakhstan

Georgia 1 - 0 Croatia

Bosnia 2 - 1 Romania

Wales 0 - 2 England

Norway 1 - 1 Denmark
