Video: Dortmund Crushed Champions Bayern

Borussia Dortmund crushed champions Bayern Munich 3-1 away to march 13 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and douse any simmering title hopes their rivals may have held. Bayern youth product Mats Hummels sealed Dortmund's first win in Munich since October 1991 with a powerful header on the hour after first-half strikes from Lucas Barrios and Nuri Sahin.

The hosts, who dropped to fourth place 16 points behind their opponents, had briefly levelled through Luiz Gustavo but were largely toothless in the second half. Bayern's defeat came only four days after their 1-0 win at Inter Milan in the Champions League round of 16, first leg.

Dortmund, who equalled the league record for most away wins in a season with their 11th victory on the road, moved on to 58 points with second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, on 45, playing at Werder Bremen on Sunday. "I am really happy. It is a great day for us because we had not won here in almost 20 years. We wanted to play a special game and we did just that," said Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp.

"The title was already out of reach before this game. They scored at the right times. We dominated in the second half but could not create any chances because we could not find a way through their defence," conceded Bayern coach Louis van Gaal.

Meanwhile, Champions League competitors Schalke looked to be heading towards yet another defeat this season when Jens Hegeler put Nurnberg ahead in the 37th minute but Spaniard Raul manage to salvage a 1-1 draw for Schalke in the 52nd minute.

In other matches, Hanover snatched a last-minute win 1-0 at St Pauli with a goal from Christian Schulz to leapfrog into third place on 44 points, two ahead of Bayern Munich.

Mainz also needed a late goal to beat Hoffenheim 2-1 after taking the lead through Austrian Andreas Ivanschitz midway through the first half.
