Saturday Video Highlights: La Liga And Serie A

Barcelona's record run of 16 straight Liga victories fizzled to a frustrating end when the leaders had to fight from a goal down to rescue a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijon. Poor defending from Gerard Pique and Gabriel Milito let Gijon striker David Barral in to score in the 16th minute at El Molinon before David Villa equalised against his former club with an exquisite chip 10 minutes from time.

Atletico Madrid's chances of qualifying for Europe receded when Diego Forlan fluffed a penalty and former Spain winger Joaquin struck twice to give Valencia a 2-1 comeback win in La Liga. Jose Antonio Reyes gave the Europa League champions an early lead on third minute, before Joaquin stole in for the equaliser just before half-time and he socred the match winner in the 86th minute.

Racing Santander went two goals up inside 19 minutes after a Fernandez Christian opener and Ivan Rakitic own goal. Sevilla pulled a goal back in 40th minute via Federico Fazio. The visitors looked to have earned a point when Luis Fabiano scored from the spot with seven minutes remaining, but Arana capitalised on a howler by Sevilla goalkeeper Andres Palop to claim an injury-time winner for the home side as they made a perfect start to Marcelino Garcia Toral's tenure with a 3-2 victory.

Meanwhile in Serie A, current leaders AC Milan fired a warning to Champions League opponents Tottenham with a 4-0 hammering of Parma at the San Siro. The Rossoneri were in scintillating attacking form, tearing the visitors apart at will as goals from Clarence Seedorf, Antonio Cassano - who also got two assists - and a quick-fire brace from substitute Robinho gave them victory in a game they dominated.

Edinson Cavani took his season goal tally to 20 with a second-half brace in Napoli’s 2-0 Serie A win over AS Roma at Stadio Olimpico. The Uruguay striker netted a controversial penalty on 49 minutes before sealing the win with a flying finish with seven minutes left. The victory keeps Napoli second.
