AC Milan's lead at the top of Serie A were cut from six to four points as they were held on home soil in an eight-goal thriller by Udinese. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's last-gasp equaliser snatched a point for the Serie A leaders.

Lazio missed the chance to close the gap on Milan after going down 2-1 to struggling Lecce at Stadio Olimpico.

Napoli made the most of Lazio's untimely slip as they took the opportunity to climb into second with an impressive 3-0 win over Juventus. Uruguayan frontman Edinson Cavani proved to the star of the show, as he bagged a hat-trick to condemn Juve to a second consecutive defeat in 2011 after their previous lost to Parma.

Inter Milan continued their strong start to the year as Esteban Cambiasso scored twice in the second half to see off Catania 2-1.

Sampdoria halted their recent wobble with a 2-1 victory over high-flying Roma. A lively encounter also saw three sending offs, with Stefano Lucchini and Daniele Gastaldello seeing red for the hosts and Julio Sergio dismissed for Roma.

Fiorentina scored two late goals to stun Brescia at the Artemio Franchi stadium. Trailing 2-1 with four minutes remaining, Mario Santana equalised before second-half substitute Adem Ljajic struck the 3-2 winner.

Bologna secured a first win in four outings as they prevailed 2-0 on the road at rock-bottom Bari. Albin Ekdal and Marco Di Vaio struck either side of the interval to wrap up the points.

Cagliari have been slipping of late, but countered that slump with a 2-1 win away at Parma. A double from Robert Acquafresca secured the win.

Cesena extended their unbeaten run to three games as they frustrated Genoa in a goalless draw at Stadio Dino Manuzzi. Meanwhile, Chievo were unable to find a way past inspired Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu as their winless run was extended to six games as they played out a goalless draw.
