Sunday Video Highlights - Serie A & La Liga

Villarreal reclaimed third place in the La Liga with a 1-0 home win over Champions League rivals Sevilla on Sunday. Brazilian striker Nilmar's ninth league goal of the season, on 29 minutes sealed the victory. Luis Garcia scored the only goal of the game as 10-man Espanyol battled to a 1-0 home triumph over struggling Sporting Gijon to move four points clear of fifth-placed Valencia.

In other games, Getafe climbed into the top half of the standings on the back of a 3-0 home victory over Mallorca. Pedro Rios netted twice for Getafe before the half-hour mark and Dani Parejo added the third goal 11 minutes from time. The battle between the bottom two sides, Almeria and Real Zaragoza, ended 1-1, which meant Javier Aguirre's Zaragoza continue to prop up the standings with nine points.

Manuel Pellegrini's Malaga returned to winning ways with a 4-1 hammering of Racing Santander while Mikel San Jose created his Athletic Bilbao side’s downfall by giving away a penalty and scoring an own-goal in a 2-0 Basque derby defeat to Real Sociedad in San Sebastian.

Meanwhile in Serie A, Sampdoria bounced back from their European disappointment in midweek with a convincing 3-0 win over ten-man Bari. Adrian Mutu grabbed the only goal of the game to earn Fiorentina a 1-0 victory over Cagliari at Stadio Artemio Franchi. Hernan Crespo struck twice in a 2-1 win over Udinese as Parma climbed further away from the Serie A relegation zone.

Bologna put their off-field distractions behind them and claimed a first win on the road this season in Serie A as they won 2-0 at Cesena. Genoa came from behind to pick up their third away win of the Serie A season with a 3-1 victory at struggling Lecce.

Juventus stretched their formidable unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions with a 3-1 victory over Catania at the Stadio Angelo Massimino. Simone Pepe opened the scoring for the away side before Takayuki Morimoto levelled the score but a brace from Fabio Quaglierella secured all three points and helped to ease the pain of a shock Europa League exit earlier this week for the Old Lady.
