Saturday Video Highlights - La Liga & Serie A

Barcelona obliterated Espanyol's home dominance with braces by Pedro Rodriguez and David Villa to claim the Catalan capital derby 5-1 and provisionally move five points clear of second-place Real Madrid in the Spanish league on Saturday. Espanyol had conceded only two goals in its seven victories at El Prat-Cornella Stadium, but Barcelona needed just 30 minutes to double that number and beat the best home side in the league.

Giuseppe Rossi inspired Villarreal to a 3-1 win over Mallorca. Santiago Cazorla open the scoring for the Yellow Submarine in the 11th minute, and after Jonathan de Guzman drew Mallorca even in the 28th. Rossi made it 2-1 from the penalty spot and finally Nilmar sealed the win in the 51st minute to move Villarreal within five points of second-place Real Madrid, while Mallorca remained 10th after its third straight loss.

Aritz Aduriz netted a last-gasp winner to send Valencia into the coveted fourth places with a 2-1 win and break the hearts of his home-town club Real Sociedad. Real Sociedad took a 23rd-minute lead through Xabi Prieto's penalty but Valencia struck back on the stroke of half-time with a stunning free-kick by Tino Costa.

Elsewhere in La Liga, Athletic Bilbao beat Levante 2-1 and Deportivo La Coruna drew 1-1 with Sporting Gijon.

Meanwhile in Serie A. Roma beat AC Milan 1-0 on Saturday and ensured the Serie A leader ended the year with a loss. Milan closes 2010 atop the league with 36 points, but the defeat means Juventus, Napoli and Lazio all have the chance to close within three points when they play on Sunday. Marco Borriello - on loan at Roma from Milan - struck the winner in the 69th minute.

"I'm delighted with the team spirit, the way the team stuck to its task and took advantage when Milan slowed down after it had dominated the first half," Claudio Ranieri said after the win over Milan. Also, Luis Jiminez scored in the first half to give Cesena a 1-0 win at home to Cagliari.
