Luis Suárez Joins Bite Club

What do Jermain Defoe, Mike Tyson and now Luis Suarez have in common?

They're all hungry for success! Tottenham striker Defoe gained notoriety when he bizarrely aimed a bite at then West Ham midfielder Javier Mascherano during a Barclays Premier League match in 2006. Meanwhile Tyson's chomp on Evander Holyfield's ear is one of sport's most haunting images. And on Saturday Ajax's Uruguayan international forward became the latest member of the Bite Club.

In the aftermath of Ajax substitute Rasmus Lindgren's red card for a rash challenge on PSV's Ibrahim Afellay, footage seems to suggest Suarez lunges at opposing midfielder Otman Bakkal bearing his teeth. Indeed the PSV man recoils in shock, clutching his clavicle as the perpetrator makes a hasty retreat.

Suarez escaped censure at the time but on Monday his club banned him for two games despite the Dutch FA (KNVB) still investigating the incident. He will also pay a fine to charity. Suarez had said after the game: "No, I do not regret what happened. Normally I always keep calm but I didn't... I'm a little tired. This week I had to travel a lot."

During the World Cup quarter final clash between Ghana and Uruguay he caused outrage when he handled a goalbound effort on the line and subsequently led wild celebrations in the tunnel after being sent off and watching Asamoah Gyan miss from the spot.
