Totti Would Step Aside For Good Of Roma

Roma's talisman Francesco Totti says that he will step aside if he feels that his presence is hampering his side, who have made a dismal start to the new Serie A season. Totti and co have won only once in their opening six league games this term and the 34-year-old former Italy playmaker has come in for criticism for some of his performances.

He told Il Corriere dello Sport, “I have worn this shirt for 21 years and for more than ten as the captain of this team. I have laughed and cried about the results we have achieved, but I have always done so with the spirit of a number one fan and a number one professional within this team. I would never allow myself to be put in a situation of privilege with respect to the other Roma players. Moreover, as the captain of Roma, I confirm that I don't want to be this team's problem.”

Meanwhile, Roma striker Stefano Okaka is desperate to move away from the Stadio Olimpico in a bid to get his career back on track. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with Fulham, before heading back to the Italian capital, but this season he has been restricted to just one appearance as a substitute. Okaka told Ansa, “I cannot see my future at Roma. If I have the chance to leave then I will. I will not stay here for another two seasons. It's not easy for a young player to find space and do well in pre-season, only for other players to come in.”

Italy Under-21 international Okaka, who has also featured on loan at Modena and Brescia, still has another two years left to run on his Roma contract, having spent the whole of his career to date in the Eternal City.
