Video Highlights: Monkey's Midweek Selection

Klaas Jan Huntelaar's late goal gave last season's Bundesliga runners-up Schalke their first victory of the season after 2-1 win against Freiburg. Ivan Rakitic gave Schalke the lead after nine minutes before Papiss Demba Cisse equalised in the 69th minute. Huntelaar struck the winner in the 87th minute.

Grafite scored twice in seven second-half minutes to give Wolfsburg a 3-1 victory at Hamburg. Edin Dzeko gave Wolfsburg the lead after 15 minutes before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting equalised in the 27th minute.

Chievo fightback as they recovered from giving away an early goal against Napoli and win 3-1. Pellissier scored twice and substitute Gelson Fernandes also netted as Chievo showed plenty of spirit.

Diego Milito was on target for the first time this season as he and Samuel Eto'o hit doubles in Inter Milan's crushing 4-0 Serie A win over Bari.

Valencia were held to a 1-1 draw by Atletico Madrid at the Mestalla. However, it could have been worse for Los Che as they needed a late equaliser from Aritz Aduriz to salvage a point after Atletico had taken an early lead through Simao Sabrosa.

David Villa's goal just after half-time was enough to see off Sporting Gijon as Barcelona lumbered through 1-0 with another lethargic display in front of their home fans.

West Brom came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in Carling Cup. Jo's left-footed strike put the visitors ahead on 19 minutes, but two goals in quick succession from Gianni Zuiverloon and Simon Cox sent Roberto Mancini's men crashing out.

Liverpool's  poor start to the season continued as they were sent crashing out of the Carling Cup by League Two side Northampton 4-2 on penalties in a night of shocks.
