Tribute: Raul's Top Moments With Real Madrid

One of the most iconic footballers in modern day history, Raul Gonzalez was truly a great footballer for Real Madrid during his 16 year stay at the Bernabeu. A true Madrista!

As a tribute to former Real Madrid living legend, just sit back and enjoy some of his greatest momments in Real Madrid jersey. It's history!

Winning the 1998 Champions League Final
After a 32 year wait, Real Madrid were able to win the European Cup by a 1-0 score over Juventus in Amsterdam. And Raul played a huge part in winning the Champions League final. This was Raul's first European trophy with Real Madrid.

Scoring a brace at Old Trafford in 2000 Champions League
One of Raul's first defining moments with Real Madrid came in 2000 against Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg at Old Trafford. In a three minute span in the second half, Raul was able to score two fantastic goals to put Real Madrid in the driver's seat as they went on to win the Champions League Final over Valencia.

Winning the 1998 Intercontinental Cup with late goal
One of the greatest goals of Raul's career came in Japan in the 1998 Intercontinental Cup between Real Madrid and Copa Libertadores champion Vasco da Gama. In a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute, Raul showed the world how great he was with a fantastic goal after beating the defenders several times. This gave Real Madrid the 2-1 win, and Raul was named the Man of the Match in the process.

Ending a three-year trophy drought with 2007 La Liga title
After three long years without winning a trophy, Raul helped to captain Real Madrid to a La Liga title in Fabio Capello's only year with los blancos. Raul led Real Madrid with 23 goals altogether in the season, and Real Madrid were able to claim La Liga despite not having much success in any other competition.

Winning the 2002 Champions League Final
This was Raul's final Champions League title with Real (this time in a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen), and he was able to score a great goal to start off the match before Zinedine Zidane won the match at the end of the first half with one of the greatest goals in Champions League history. Raul proved on this night that he was one of the best players in Champions League history with his third title, and of course he has scored in two separate Champions League Finals.

Winning the 2000 Champions League Final
In Raul's second-ever Champions League final, he was able to score one of the greatest goals in Champions League Finals history by scoring a beautiful goal on a breakaway to make the score 3-0. This goal was the icing on the cake for Real Madrid as they won the Champions League final, and this goal really made Raul a superstar.

Becoming the highest goalscorer in UEFA Club Competitions
Already the highest goalscorer in Champions League history, Raul was able to go a step further in a Champions League match against Zenit St. Petersburg in 2008. Raul was able to score twice against Zenit on this December night, and bested Filippo Inzaghi as the all-time top scorer in UEFA club competitions.

Eclipsing Alfredo Di Stefano’s goalscoring record
Early in 2009, Raul officially stamped himself in as the greatest player in Real Madrid's history by scoring against Numancia by becoming the leading goalscorer in Real Madrid's history. Several weeks prior, Raul also added his name to the exclusive "500 Club" by making his 500th Liga appearance.

Scoring his first goal for Real Madrid
In his second-ever appearance for Real Madrid, Raul was able to score a fantastic goal against Atletico Madrid (who incidentally enough were once the side he played his youth football with). Raul was able to score his goal by shooting it over Atletico's keeper as Real Madrid won 4-2 against their inter-city rival.

Silencing the Camp Nou crowd in El Clasico
The moment that made Raul become a legend came against archrival Barcelona in El Clasico. After scoring, Raul went up to the crowd at the Camp Nou and lifted his index finger to his pursed lips as he celebrated, a moment that showed Raul's allegiance to Real Madrid.
