Moyes Is Optimistic About Everton's Chances!

Everton has completed a very successful pre-season trip to Australia, winning all three exhibition games. They beat Brisbane Roar 2-1 on Saturday to complete the sweep of the Aussie teams. Second half goals by Jack Rodwell and Magaye Gueye gave Everton the win over Brisbane. Everton achieved earlier wins against Sydney FC 1-0 and Melbourne Heart 2-1.

After the win over Brisbane Roar manager David Moyes told Evertontv, "I am pleased but not delighted because it doesn't get me going. What gets me going is wins within the Premier League. The players have played quite well and they have put a great shift in."

The season starts in less than a month. The Toffees kick of the Premier league on the road against Blackburn on August 14. Everton hopes to build on the strong finish from last season. After a slow start and bottom of the table at the beginning of last season, the Toffees put great perfromances, in fact they only had two defeats in 24 league games from late November until the end of the season as they finished eighth on the table, just outside of a Europa League place.

There is much reason for optimism for the upcoming season. Everton has re-signed important players such as Tim Cahill and Jack Rodwell, and have brought in more talent, like Jermain Beckford, Magaye Gueye, and Joao Silva. Moyes sounds as upbeat about his club's chances as he has at any time going into a new season. With Liverpool poised to perhaps slip even more in the standings, and none of the big clubs doing anything extraordinary so far in their signings, Everton has every right to think not only can they finish in the top seven, but maybe, if they can get off to a better start than last year, the top four is a possibility, definitely maybe!
