Guti: Adios Los Blancos!

Real Madrid icon Guti has officially announced that he is putting his Real Madrid career to an end after 25 years of service - 15 of which as a first-team player.

The 33 year old thanked everyone at the club that supported him through an amazing journey. The play-maker, during a press conference on Sunday, talked about how Real Madrid will always be in his heart and that he is grateful to all those who supported him and believed in him during his stay at the Bernabeu.

Guti said:
"I just want to thank Real Madrid. I’ve lived and played at a beautiful stage here. I grew up in Madrid and I have played at this club for the last 24 years, of which 15 were in the first team. I will continue playing but my heart will continue to be with Real Madrid. I want to thank everyone who supported me, my family and friends have always been there. I am leaving with the knowledge that the Real Madrid family loves me and that’s very important."

The 14-times capped Spaniard began his Madrid career in December 1995 against Sevilla when Jorge Valdano, who is currently the club’s general manager, was the coach.

Valdano said:
"He is a special player who managed to surprise us in every game he played. Guti is a true Madridista. Today is a sad day because one of our own is leaving."

Guti is expected to leave for Turkey and be re-united with former Madrid coach Bernd Schuster at Besiktas. The player who has won 5 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League medals continued to say that leaving Madrid was not an easy decision to make and that even though he was the one who decided to leave, he was not happy about it. Guti made a total 542 appearances for Real madrid, 9th in their all-time list of appearances during which he has found the net 86 times.

Football Monkey would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Guti with the below video, for being a true Madridista and wish him all the best with his new club.
