Manchester City Sign David Silva

Manchester City have completed the signing of Spanish winger David Silva from Valencia. City have beaten Chelsea and local rivals Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Rafa Benitez's new club Inter Milan to the Spaniard's signature. The winger is currently still in South Africa as part of the Spanish team, but Silva is expected to sign a five-year deal with Manchester City after the conclusion of the World Cup.

The 24-year-old winger is expected to earn close to £160,000 a week playing in the sky blue of City. The English side have apparently offered a fee somewhere in the region of £29 million to snap up their second signing since the close of the season. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini said that Villa is a "world class player" and he is delighted to bring him the Eastlands.

Silva released a statement from South Africa thanking Valencia and their "loyal fans." He said that was very happy to play for Valencia and also thanked his teammates. In regards to Manchester City, he said that the time was right for a new challenge for him and that he was looking forward to playing for Manchester City, and he thinks that the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world.

On the back of signing David Silva, Manchester City are also expected to tie up yet another player from La Liga. Barcelona's Yaya Toure looks set to join the Citizens as the Catalan giants look to make room for Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas. City are expected to sign the Ivorian anchorman for a fee of £28 million. Manchester City have already signed German defender Jerome Boateng from Hamburg for an undisclosed fee.

The signing of David Silva may result in Manchester City allowing either Stephan Ireland or Shaun Wright-Philips—or possibly both—to leave the club. Ireland has voiced his unhappiness at his lack of football last season for City, and he has been in many Premier League managers' sights. Craig Bellemy may also be seen as surplus to requirements at Eastlands by manager Roberto Mancini.
